Why that name "Bed and extra horse" ?

The house in which the gite was built, is very old. It is found on old maps of Cassini in seventeenth century.

When Jean-Marie visited for the first time this very old farm where he began his home construct ... in old farm buildings: stables, barn, there was on the wall of the dwelling house of the farmer, two beautiful plates. The first stated that it was (in the 50s), the public telephone booth in a half mile. The second was highlighted this text: "Here ends the authorization of the extra horse».

Very long, the transport of goods are subject to taxes and fees ... (And it seems to me that this continues!).

A problem arose with the drivers : the landfall with high percentages or mountain passes ... In the countryside, to unload passengers and ask them to push the wheel was not unusual, but inconceivable in town.

The solution was to rent a (more) horse, available at stations located at the foot problems, and managed by an employee : the Coastal, which provided, climbed, ran and brought back the "extra horse" rented (but exempt from tax) by the driver.

The lodging of the extra horse sits atop a long hill, which starts Etréaupont on an old "Royal Road" that led the traveler to Aix-la-Chapelle. Beyond the cottage, the "extra horse," praised, but exempt from tax, was no longer allowed.

Nicole and Jean-Marie have called the shelter in memory of the former function of this house.
